How much does ski rental Bardonecchia cost

These are the rates you’ll find at the foot of the pistes. Price depends mostly on the gear tier: a basic set and a top-end one can differ by twenty euros a day. Most shops drop their rates from the third day, which is why a week costs less than five single days.

Bardonecchia’s ski area

Bardonecchia is part of the Skiarea Bardonecchia ski area: 23 lifts, 100 km of pistes, from 1,312 to 2,800 metres. The season usually runs from early December to mid-April.

Four linked areas, Campo Smith, Les Arnauds, Mélezet and Jafferau, make up 100 km of pistes between 1,312 and 2,800 metres.

The Jafferau hosted the snowboard events at the 2006 Turin Olympics. It’s a direct train ride from Turin.

The adult day pass in peak season runs around €49, on top of the rental when you tally up the day. Many ski areas use dynamic pricing: buying online a few days ahead usually costs less than at the ticket office that morning. Current rates here.

When to ski in Bardonecchia

With lifts reaching 2,800 metres, Bardonecchia holds its snow even when lower resorts are struggling. This is the place to book ahead in December and March, the two months when other resorts are most exposed.

The week between Christmas and Epiphany is when rental shops run out of the most requested sizes, especially men’s boots in sizes 42 to 44 and anything for kids. If you’re skiing then, book your gear when you book your accommodation. In January, outside weekends, you’ll find everything with no queue and often at a lower rate.

What gear to get

100 km of pistes is enough for four or five days without skiing the same runs twice. An all-round piste ski works for most people; ask for a ski 5 cm shorter than recommended if you’re in your second or third week on skis.

Boots matter more than skis. The wrong boot ruins your week; a mediocre ski just slows it down. Try them on with the socks you’ll actually wear, walk around the shop for a few minutes and check your heel stays put without your toes hitting the front. If they hurt by midweek, go back to the shop: swapping them is almost always free.

A helmet usually isn’t included and costs €3–5 a day. It’s compulsory on Italian slopes for anyone under 18, so factor it in from the start.

Where to rent skis in Bardonecchia

Rental shops cluster at the foot of the lifts and along the village’s main street. Ask if they offer ski storage: leaving your boots and gear up at altitude saves you loading the car every morning, and it usually costs a few euros a day.

Daily or seasonal rental for kids

If your child skis more than two weeks a season, seasonal rental works out cheaper. It typically runs €150–300 for an adult and less for kids, with size swaps included through the winter. For a foot that grows two sizes between December and March, it’s the only option that makes sense: buy skis for an eight-year-old and you’ll be buying them again at nine.

Skis sitting idle eight months a year

If you own a decent set, it sits in the cellar all summer. Rented out, it earns €250–600 a season, with verified ID and insurance included on every rental.
