The Alpe di Siusi ski area

Alpe di Siusi is part of the Alpe di Siusi / Val Gardena (Dolomiti Superski) ski area: 79 lifts, 181 km of pistes, from 1.236 to 2.540 metres. The season usually runs from early December to early April.

Alpe di Siusi is Europe’s largest high-altitude plateau, linked to the Val Gardena lift system: 181 km of pistes and 79 lifts.

The runs are scenic and mostly intermediate, looking out over the Sciliar and the Sassolungo.

The adult day pass in high season is around 80 €, on top of the rental when you work out the cost of the day. Many ski areas use dynamic pricing: buying it online a few days ahead costs less than at the ticket office that morning. Updated rates here.

When to ski in Alpe di Siusi

The lifts go up to 2.540 metres, high enough to guarantee snow through the core of the season. In early December and after mid-March, it’s worth checking how many pistes are actually open before booking your gear.

Christmas week through Epiphany is when rental shops run out of the most requested sizes, especially men’s boots in sizes 42 to 44 and all the kids’ gear. If you’re skiing then, book your gear when you book your accommodation. In January, outside weekends, you’ll find everything with no queue and often at a lower rate.

What gear to bring

With 181 km of linked pistes, you cover real distance here: a versatile piste ski, not too short, holds up best over a full day of moving between areas. If you’re aiming to complete the full circuit, start early and keep an eye on the closing time of the lifts back.

The boot matters more than the ski. A bad boot ruins the week, a mediocre ski only slows you down. Try it on with the socks you’ll actually wear, walk around the shop for a minute and check that your heel stays put without your toes hitting the front. If it hurts halfway through the week, go back to the shop: the swap is almost always free.

The helmet usually isn’t included and costs 3–5 € a day. It’s compulsory for under-18s on Italian slopes, so budget for it from the start.

Where to rent skis in Alpe di Siusi

Rental shops cluster at the bottom of the lifts and along the main street of town. Ask if they offer ski storage: leaving your boots and gear up at altitude saves you loading the car every morning, and it usually costs a few euros a day.

Daily or seasonal hire, for kids

If your child skis more than two weeks in a season, seasonal hire costs less. It typically runs 150 to 300 € for an adult and less for kids, with size swaps included through the winter. For a foot that grows two sizes between December and March, it’s the only option that makes sense: buy skis for an eight-year-old and you’ll be buying them again at nine.

Skis idle eight months a year

If you own a decent set, it sits in the cellar all summer. Rented out, it earns 250–600 € a season, with verified identity and insurance included on every rental.
