Rental demand calendar for Italy: what people rent month by month

Team Sharepact·September 29, 2026·5 min read

Italy has two rental high seasons and they do not overlap: skis peak in the last week of December, bikes in the first half of August. Compared with the dead months, the gap is close to a hundred to one. If you list your gear in the wrong month, you arrive after the demand has gone.

This calendar comes from Google Trends data for Italy, September 2024 to August 2026, cross-checked with Google’s own search suggestions. These are ratios between months, not absolute volumes. They are enough to decide when to publish, when to raise your price and when not to bother.

The six-week rule

A new listing needs time. Google has to index it and the first rentals bring the first reviews. Six weeks before the peak is the right moment to go live. Two weeks before is late: the people searching have already booked.

It works the other way too. A pair of skis listed in March collects a few Easter rentals and then sits idle until November. That is fine, as long as you know it before buying equipment just to rent it out.

How steep the peaks are

Bike rental searches in August are eight times those in December. Skis do worse: the last week of December is worth a hundred June weeks. If you have skis in the garage, you earn in ten weeks a year or you do not earn at all.

Kayaks and paddleboards are concentrated between June and August, with August alone carrying a third of the year. Bouncy castles peak early, in May, because communions and outdoor birthdays come before the summer holidays. Snowshoes live on a single month, January.

Formal wear is the exception. It has two humps, February and September, and holds a steady level for the rest of the year. It is the only category that pays twelve months out of twelve.

Regions do not search for the same things

Sardinia, Sicily and Abruzzo are the regions where bike rental weighs most in proportion. In Abruzzo the reason is specific: the Costa dei Trabocchi cycle path, with Ortona, Vasto and Fossacesia growing 120 to 350% in a year. Comacchio shows up in Emilia-Romagna, Imperia in Liguria.

For skis, Valle d’Aosta leads, followed by Trentino, Lombardy and Piedmont. The rising spots are ones few people expect: Frontignano in the Marche, Campo Imperatore in Abruzzo, Montgenèvre on the French border.

Dress rental is searched mostly in Campania, Calabria and Puglia. E-bikes in Riva del Garda, Asiago and Ponte di Legno.

How to use the calendar if you rent out your things

Publish six weeks before your category’s peak. For snow that means mid-October, for the sea late February, for spring parties mid-March.

Raise your price in the peak weeks. A paddleboard that earns €25 a day in summer can go to €35 in the two central weeks of August without losing bookings. In the dead months lower it, or offer weekly rates: pay four days, use seven, and you attract people who would not otherwise book.

If you own gear for two opposite seasons, list both and keep the listings active all year. A listing with twelve reviews outweighs a new one even after months of inactivity. For per-category figures, see our guide to how much you can earn renting out your stuff.

If you are the one renting

The calendar works in reverse. Peak weeks are the most expensive and the least available. Someone looking for skis on 27 December finds little and pays a lot. Someone booking on 10 December gets to choose.

The shoulder months are worth a look too. In September bikes are free and cheaper, and the sea is still warm. In March the slopes are open and rental skis cost half what they did at New Year. Our guide on when renting beats buying shows how to run the numbers.

FAQ

Does this data apply to my town?

The seasons yes, the intensity no. In a flat, non-touristic city, bike demand is flatter and home tool demand steadier. Look at what people search near you: over the past two years, “near me” searches grew 350 to 850% for bikes, e-bikes and skis in Italy.

Is it worth listing out of season?

Yes, if the listing costs you nothing. You collect your first reviews at a calm pace and reach the peak already ranked. On Sharepact listing is free, and ID verification and insurance are included.

Which categories pay all year?

Formal wear, tools, projectors and speakers for parties, child car seats and strollers. These have the lowest seasonality.
