Bouncy castle rental for parties: prices, space and what to check

Team Sharepact·September 29, 2026·5 min read

A children’s bouncy castle rents for €80 to €150 a day with delivery and setup, €150 to €250 if it has a slide or is over 5 metres. Peer to peer, without setup, it drops to €50 to €100. Buying a family-grade one costs €300 to €800, and after the birthday it lives in the garage: the bouncy castle is the most seasonal object there is, with a sharp peak in May for communions and garden parties.

Price is the last problem, though. The first is space: most bouncy castle parties fail because the garden is two metres too short or the socket is too far away.

A professional rental company includes transport, setup, stakes and public liability insurance. Peer to peer, the castle arrives folded in a 20 to 40 kg bag with the blower: you set it up yourself, in ten minutes, but it is worth asking for a video of how.

How much space you really need

Take the castle’s dimensions and add a metre on each side. A 3×3 castle wants a flat 5×5 metre area, with no branches above and no sharp edges around. Height matters: many castles exceed 3 metres inflated, and they do not fit under a porch.

The ground should be grass or packed earth, so the stakes go in. On concrete or tiles you need ballast bags, at least 15 kg per corner, and not every rental company supplies them. Ask first.

The socket should be within 30 metres, with an outdoor extension lead. The blower draws 1 to 1.5 kW and runs for the whole party: about 1 kWh an hour, under 30 cents.

How to transport it

A folded 3×3 castle weighs 25 to 35 kg and fits in the boot of a saloon car. With a slide you get to 50 to 70 kg and need an estate car or two people loading it together. The blower travels separately: it is the only thing that breaks if you pile the rest on top. If you are collecting from a private owner, bring a sheet to protect the boot: the base of a castle is always a bit grassy.

The rules nobody reads

The European standard for inflatables, EN 14960, sets two limits everyone should know. The first is wind: above 38 km/h the castle comes down, even mid-party. If gusts are forecast, postpone. The second is supervision: one adult standing at the entrance, always, counting children and enforcing the size limit. A six-child castle with twelve on it tips over.

Shoes off, no glasses, no food inside, children of similar age together. Those four rules prevent 90% of accidents, and they are printed on the label sewn at the castle’s entrance. If there is no label, the castle is not compliant.

When to book and where people search most

Bouncy castle rental searches in Italy start in April and peak in the last week of May, communion season. May weekends get booked a month ahead. In June and September there is more choice, and peer-to-peer prices often drop.

The cities with the most searches are Padua, Rome, Milan and Brescia. The “near me” modifier is growing fastest of all: people want a castle ten minutes from home, because transporting it is the hard part.

If you already own one

A bouncy castle bought for one birthday gets used twice a year. Listed at €60 a day, for ten weekends between April and June, it makes €600 in a season: it has already paid for itself.

What renters ask, in order: inflated dimensions, how many children and what age it suits, whether the blower is included, how much the bag weighs. Put all of it in the listing with a photo of the castle set up, not folded. And a clear deal on cleaning: it comes back dry and brushed, or part of the deposit is kept. On Sharepact every renter is ID-verified and every rental is insured, as our guide on renting out safely explains.

FAQ

Can I set up a bouncy castle in a public park?

Almost never without a permit from the council. In a shared condominium garden you need the residents’ meeting or at least notice to the neighbours. In a private garden, yes.

What if it rains?

Light rain is fine, the floor gets slippery. In a storm it comes down. Most rental companies move the date free of charge if bad weather is forecast; peer to peer, agree it in the chat before paying.

How long does setup take?

Ten minutes with two people: unroll, connect the blower, drive in the stakes. Deflating and folding takes twenty minutes, and it must be dry.

Is it worth buying?

Above six parties a year, yes. Below that, no: our guide on when renting beats buying explains why.
