How it works (and when to book)
A dress rental usually runs 3–4 days: pickup, event, return. Fittings happen in the shop or, between private individuals, at pickup. For ceremonies it pays to move one or two weeks ahead, more in May and June when weddings pile up. Cleaning is almost always included: you return the dress as it is. Bring the shoes you’ll wear to the event to the fitting: they change how the dress falls, and the right hem gets decided there, not at home in front of the mirror.
Dress rental Rome: what people rent most
Requests cluster around three occasions. Ceremonies first: wedding-guest dresses, long or midi, peaking between May and June. Then evenings: cocktails, galas, December office parties. Finally carnival and themed events, where renting is by now the norm. For men the dominant request is the elegant suit and the tuxedo, often rented with shirt and bow tie included.
Why rent a dress you’d wear once
A bought occasion dress costs 200–600 € and in most cases leaves the wardrobe once. Rented, you spend a fraction, wear a higher-end piece and don’t accumulate. It counts double for men: a tuxedo worn twice in ten years is probably the least used item in the entire wardrobe, yet when it’s needed it has to be impeccable. That is exactly what a well-run rental guarantees. And anyone with idle dresses can put them to work.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to rent an occasion dress in Rome?
Usually 40–90 € for a women’s dress and 50–100 € for a men’s suit, cleaning included and with a 3–4 day rental.
Is the fitting included in the rental?
In shops yes, by appointment. Between private individuals it’s agreed: the fitting often coincides with pickup, with the option to walk away if the piece doesn’t fit well.
What if the dress gets stained at the event?
Ordinary cleaning is included. For real damage (tears, burns), the deposit and insurance come into play: on Sharepact every rental is insured.
How far ahead should I book?
One or two weeks is almost always enough; for weddings in high season (May–June, September) make it three or four.
Are sizes a problem with dress rental?
Less than you’d think: rental shops generally cover sizes 38 to 52 and in-house tailors make small adjustments to hems and straps, often included. Between private individuals the fitting at pickup is what counts: agree on the option to walk away if the piece doesn’t fit the way you hoped.
